Health education: a core competency for nurses in the U.S. Department of Education.
An examination of the evolution of the nursing profession, from the creation of the nursing degree in 1922 through the 2009 training reform, shows how the role of care and prevention naturally assigned to nurses in the National Education system has evolved into a health education role, now enshrined in a "mission to promote student health." This mission can be carried out by forging ties with relevant partners—as emphasized by the regulatory framework—and by applying the professional competencies outlined in the occupational standards that these professionals have mastered.
