Health care and health education in sign language: a challenge to be met.

People who have been deaf since birth, who primarily communicate through sign language, have long been denied access to healthcare in their own language. In recent years, however, through specific hospital programs or by utilizing their disability compensation benefits, they have been able to receive medical care in sign language. Health education provided by and for the deaf remains a challenge to be addressed.
