"The First 1,000 Days": From Knowledge to Action in Public Health

Since its creation in May 2016, Santé publique France has been committed to health promotion and prevention in the areas of perinatal care and early childhood. This commitment reflects a determination to take action as early as possible to mitigate the effects and intergenerational transmission of social and regional health inequalities. This work is grounded in the values of health development and stems from the current state of knowledge regarding children’s fundamental needs, particularly the need for stable emotional bonds with an adult who provides care and attention—even before birth.
