The evolution of psychiatry in France: innovative, yet mixed and incomplete.

The psychiatric care system has undergone significant changes over the past fifty years, both in France and throughout the industrialized world. The centralized structure of psychiatric hospitals of the past has been replaced by a system that is more closely aligned with local communities and populations, aimed at promoting and maintaining patients’ social integration. However, this innovative transformation remains incomplete, and much work remains to be done to improve patients’ quality of life.
