Empowerment improves public health [Interview].

Nina Wallerstein, an American researcher, is a pioneer in the field of empowerment—the process of increasing people’s ability to take action—and its impact on health. In 2006, the World Health Organization (WHO) commissioned her to write a landmark report on empowerment and health. Since then, empowerment has remained at the heart of her research. She agreed to answer our questions, along with Noelle Wiggins, also a specialist in empowerment, health, and inequalities. They explain why and how empowerment is effective in reducing health inequalities, drawing on scientific literature reviews.
