Cross-Cultural Consultation: Building Bridges Between Languages and Cultures of Origin to Provide the Most Appropriate Care for Children [Interview]
Psychologist Amalini Simon analyzes transcultural consultations, which involve several levels of mediation: the first with an interpreter, when the patient and their loved ones do not have a sufficient command of French to express themselves accurately in that language; the second between the healthcare team and the patient as well as their family and friends; and the third among family members—within the couple, between parents and children, and so on. Finally, there is cultural mediation, between the culture of origin and French culture.
