Characteristics of women receiving menopausal hormone replacement therapy: a descriptive study of patients at health screening centers

The management of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for menopause is a significant economic and public health issue. According to an epidemiological report published in 2002 by V. Ringa, it is estimated that in France at least 30% of postmenopausal women under the age of 65 are on HRT, but that this medical care remains highly uneven among the population likely to benefit from it. Regardless of the current controversy over the benefits and risks of HRT, we felt it would be useful to describe, within the population of health screening centers, the main sociocultural characteristics of postmenopausal women on HRT and their behaviors regarding cancer prevention. A logistic regression was performed to determine the weight of the selected variables, after adjusting for the other explanatory variables in the model, in the probability of using HRT at the time of the survey.
