AMP Without Borders.

Introduction - Legislative and medical disparities governing access to assisted reproductive technology (ART) around the world, including in Europe, have led to a significant trend toward cross-border treatment. This article presents the initial findings of a study conducted in France, Belgium, Greece, and Spain, which aims to identify and understand the transnational pathways taken by French citizens to access ART abroad. Methods - This study is based on quantitative and qualitative data that we are currently collecting in medical centers in three European countries identified as the main destinations for French citizens seeking ART abroad (Belgium, Spain, and Greece). To date, 39 self-administered questionnaires have been collected and 52 interviews conducted in Greece and Belgium. Preliminary results - Transnational pathways related to ART are primarily determined by the sociodemographic characteristics of the prospective parents and by the medical technique sought. Discussion and conclusion - The transnational recourse observed involves both those excluded from ART and couples who would be fully eligible for treatment in France. This recourse therefore reflects new expectations as well as unmet needs regarding infertility treatment in France. (R.A.)
