UV radiation and skin cancer. Assessment and prevention efforts must be stepped up

As the incidence of skin cancer rises in France, as in many other countries, a report on the risks associated with ultraviolet radiation—prepared by experts from the InVS, the Afsse, and the Afssaps—highlights the lack of data on the French population’s exposure. There are numerous variables: natural sunlight, use of artificial tanning, occupational exposure, and individual preventive behaviors. To assess the situation, the report recommends the creation of an observatory on ultraviolet exposure to coordinate the evaluation and prevention efforts that urgently need to be developed.
