Climate and Health: Preventing Extreme Weather Events

Unprecedented in its duration and intensity, the heat wave of August 2003 caught the entire French health and social services system off guard. This crisis brought the issue of the relationship between climate and health to the forefront, a challenge that calls for specific responses. The InVS will play a key role in this effort, through its participation in the development of prevention plans and by incorporating the most vulnerable population groups into its surveillance and health risk prevention programs.
