The national organized breast cancer screening program for women aged 50 to 69 was launched in 1994 following a pilot phase (1989–1991) conducted in 10 departments. The evaluation of early indicators includes indicators of quality, effectiveness, and impact. An analysis of annual breast cancer mortality rates (1978–1999), standardized to the global female population aged 30 and older, was performed. An indicator of change between the two periods 1988–1992 and 1995–1999 was calculated.
