Epidemiological Surveillance in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region. Update as of September 30, 2020.

Key Points

  • COVID Surveillance: Declining incidence rate and rising hospital mortality:

    • Stable positivity rate at the regional level;

    • slightly increasing positivity rate across all age groups except for those aged 60–80;

    • declining incidence rate at the regional level over the past 3 weeks;

    • decrease in emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations for suspected COVID-19;

    • Hospitalizations have stabilized across the region (general hospitalizations, ICU);

    • Increase in hospital deaths;

    • A significant number of clusters reported, particularly in nursing homes and in schools and universities

  • Surveillance of chikungunya, dengue, and Zika: since surveillance began, 64 confirmed cases of dengue—primarily imported from French departments in the Americas—and 8 locally acquired cases have been reported. Additionally, one case of chikungunya imported from Cambodia has been reported

  • West Nile surveillance: two new equine cases were reported by the DGAL. The horses were stabled in Le Varet in Haute-Corse. They had shown signs of illness starting on September 3. Another case with symptoms on August 1 had been reported in Corse-du-Sud
