Surveillance of Bronchiolitis in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of December 22, 2015.
Epidemiological Situation
Since early December, there has been an increase in emergency room visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age in Réunion. This trend is typical for this time of year and marks the start of the seasonal epidemic. Virological data show that RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), the main virus responsible for bronchiolitis, has been circulating on the island since November. The evolution of the epidemiological situation will continue to be closely monitored in the coming weeks. Changes in surveillance indicators underscore the importance of reminding the public of appropriate preventive measures as the southern summer begins.
