HIV Infections and AIDS

  • HIV Surveillance:

    • Completeness of the DO: continued improvement in the overall completeness of the DO in 2023: 77%

    • Participation in LaboVIH: Participation by laboratories in this survey, which helps address the lack of completeness in HIV surveillance data, increased significantly in 2023: 91%

  • HIV Testing (LaboVIH / SNDS / VIH Test): significant increase in testing across all age groups, linked to the accelerated rollout of the VIHTest program (prescription-free HIV testing) in 2023

  • HIV diagnosis (DO):

    • Moderate increase in the rate of HIV-positive diagnoses between 2021 and 2023, linked to an increase in the estimated number of diagnoses among people born abroad

    • Men who have sex with men (MSM) account for 52% of HIV diagnoses in Occitanie in 2023, more than in mainland France excluding the Île-de-France region (42%)

  • HIV incidence and size of the undiagnosed population:

    • Excluding individuals infected prior to their arrival in the region, the HIV incidence was estimated at 218 [95% CI: 145–291] in Occitanie in 2023

    • Among people living with HIV in Occitanie who were unaware of their HIV status, estimated at 602 [95% CI: 509–695] at the end of 2023, the proportion of MSM born in France was 40%, that of heterosexuals born in France was 24%, and that of heterosexuals born abroad was 23%

  • AIDS diagnosis: in 2023, the proportion of diagnosed individuals who were aware of their HIV-positive status prior to developing AIDS was 51%

Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) infection

  • Screening: In 2023, the screening rate in Occitanie increased by 15% compared to 2021 (50 per 1,000 inhabitants)

  • Diagnosis: In 2023, in Occitanie, the diagnosis rate for Ct infection remained generally stable since 2021 (85 per 100,000 people aged 15 and older)

  • At CeGIDD: patients were primarily men under the age of 26

Gonococcal infection

  • Screening: In 2023, the screening rate for gonococcal infections in Occitanie continued to rise (52 per 1,000 inhabitants)

  • Diagnosis: In Occitanie, in 2023, the diagnosis rate for gonococcal infection was rising (32 per 100,000 people aged 15 and older)

  • At CeGIDD: infections were most often linked to heterosexual transmission (3/4) and patients were primarily men aged 26 to 49

Syphilis

  • Screening: In 2023, the syphilis screening rate in Occitanie was on the rise (49 per 1,000 residents)

  • Diagnosis: In Occitanie, the syphilis diagnosis rate was stable (7 per 100,000 people aged 15 and older)

  • CeGIDD: Patients were primarily men aged 26 to 49
