Summary of the Epidemiological Situation

The epidemiological situation regarding malaria was stable during the first quarter of 2023. Of the 11 reported malaria cases, 4 are believed to have been contracted in French Guiana in gold-mining areas, and 5 are believed to be imported cases.
In 2022, the annual number of reported malaria cases among patients diagnosed by the French Guiana healthcare system was the lowest ever recorded. The majority of cases with a presumed place of infection were imported cases (60% versus 36% of locally acquired cases). The sites of infection identified within the territory were located in the Haut-Maroni, Oyapock, and Interior regions.
