Public Health Surveillance in the Lorraine Region. Epidemiological Update as of February 23, 2012.

Key Facts

  • The flu epidemic is taking hold in the region; the incidence rate of flu-like illness consultations is 229 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (data from the Unified Flu Network) in Lorraine. With the influenza A (H3N2) virus being the predominant strain this season, we expect to see numerous clusters of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in facilities caring for dependent elderly individuals.

  • The acute gastroenteritis outbreak is gradually subsiding in Lorraine. Surveillance data show a decrease in outpatient visits (data from SOS Médecin). Virological data confirm the predominant circulation of GII4 genotype noroviruses.

  • The bronchiolitis outbreak among children under 2 years of age is subsiding in mainland France. The same trend is observed at the regional level.
