SOS Médecins National Newsletter, October 6–12, 2014
Overall Activity TrendsOver the past week, overall activity at the associations has remained stable across all age groups, with the exception of children, among whom an 8% increase in activity was observed (+1,473 visits). The number of visits (56,057 weekly visits across all age groups) is slightly higher than in 2012 and 2013 during this time of year
Trends in Major ConditionsFor all age groups, the most frequently seen conditions in clinics are ENT conditions, bronchitis, and gastroenteritis.
Trends in seasonal indicators: Consultations for gastroenteritis increased last week, particularly among children (+24%, or +297 visits) and to a lesser extent among adults (+13%, or +243 visits). With 3,777 consultations across all age groups, this indicator remains higher than the values observed in the two previous years during this period. This trend is primarily observed in the Basse-Normandie, Pays de la Loire, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, and Picardie regions. Visits for bronchitis are also on the rise among children under 14 (+18%, or +152 visits) and those over 75 (+18%, or +45 visits), with numbers higher than in previous years (2,621 weekly visits). Across all age groups, visits for asthma are increasing, particularly in the North and Northeast, and especially among those aged 5–14 and those over 75, though with low numbers (38 and 13 additional visits, respectively). Numbers are higher than those observed in previous years. Despite still low numbers, consultations for influenza/flu-like illness are on the rise across all age groups and are observed in most regions. Numbers are consistent with those observed during 2012 and 2013 at this time of year (385 weekly visits). Visits for pneumonia are also increasing across all age groups (+14%), with moderate numbers in line with expected levels. Among children under 2 years of age, visits for bronchiolitis are on the rise (+10%), at levels comparable to those of previous years.
