SOS Médecins National Newsletter, April 15, 2014

Trends in Overall Activity: Activity at SOS Médecins clinics remains stable across all age groups, both nationally and regionally. Patient numbers are similar to those observed in 2013 for the same period.

Trends in seasonal indicators: Seeking medical care for asthma attacks decreased by 10% over the past week, representing a drop of 63 cases across all age groups. The seasonal trend and case numbers for this indicator are consistent with those observed in the previous two years. Following an increase in allergy-related visits recorded since mid-March, the indicator began a slight decline over the past week (-13%, or -122 cases across all age groups). This trend is similar to that observed in 2012, but the numbers remain higher than those recorded in the two previous years. Regional differences are noted in the trend of this indicator: while a decrease is observed in the North, Northeast, and Île-de-France regions (toward the end of the week), numbers are stable in the Central-East and Southeast regions and are slightly higher in the Southwest and West regions. Among people aged 75 and older, healthcare visits for isolated fever are up 24%, or +17 cases. Cases in this age group remain moderate (87 cases for the past week). Across all age groups, this indicator is stable and consistent with previous years. Other seasonal indicators (influenza/influenza-like illness, gastroenteritis) are decreasing across all age groups.
