Key Points
In Week 42 (October 14–20, 2024), emergency room visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups, with the exception of a slight increase in visits among children under 2 years of age (+4.5%, or +979 visits).
Once again this week, the main seasonal respiratory indicators remain stable or are declining across all age groups. However, there is an increase in visits for:
influenza/flu-like illness among children (+43%, or +63 visits) and those aged 15–74 (+7%, or +30 visits)
cough among children (+9%, or +126 visits) and asthma attacks among those aged 75 and older (+21%, or +23 visits).
Finally, for the second consecutive week, the increase in visits and hospitalizations for bronchiolitis continues among children under 2 years of age (respectively +15% and +12%, or +165 visits and +40 hospitalizations), but at levels that remain well below those of the previous three years.
Among other indicators, for children, there was an increase in visits for isolated fever (+8%, or +262 visits) and for malaise (+12%, or +92 visits), among children under 2 years of age for skin conditions (20%, or 56 more visits) and for abdominal pain (10%, or 50 more visits), and among 2- to 14-year-olds for vomiting (7%, or 47 more visits).
Among adults, there was an increase in visits for dehydration among those aged 15–74 (+33%, or +18 visits) and for suicide attempts among those aged 15–44 (+6%, or 59 visits).
Finally, there was an increase in visits for conjunctivitis across all age groups (+15%, or +141 visits).
