Overall Activity Trends: The number of visits and hospitalizations among adults remained stable over the past week. However, activity in emergency departments and hospitalizations among children under 15 have increased slightly: +6% for visits (+5,969 visits) and +4% for hospitalizations (+444 hospitalizations), particularly among children under 2 years of age (+9%, or +1,805 visits, and +5%, or +158 hospitalizations).
Trends in Major ConditionsThe most common conditions seen in emergency departments remain stable among adults. Among children under 15, trauma and ENT infections are the primary conditions seen in emergency departments. Respiratory infections continue to show a notable increase in this age group. It is also noted that visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age continue to rise and represent the second most common diagnosis in emergency departments.
Trends in seasonal indicators Among children under 15, an increase in emergency department visits is observed for the following indicators: influenza (+41%, or +38 visits), acute bronchitis (+21%, or +103 visits), pneumonia (+40%, or +246 visits), and ENT infections (+15%, or +992 visits). Among adults, these indicators remain stable. The numbers for the latter two indicators are higher than those in 2012 and 2013. Among children under 2 years of age, emergency room visits for bronchiolitis continue to rise: +37% (+623 visits over the past week), with a seasonal trend mirroring that of 2013 (2,286 weekly visits). Regional variations are worth noting, with an earlier and more intense onset of the epidemic in the Île-de-France region, where the current level exceeds that observed during the epidemic peaks of the previous two years. Visits for gastroenteritis are on the rise among adults (+13%, or +50 visits). The number of cases is consistent with those of the previous two years. Emergency department visits for asthma and isolated fever are stable across all age groups. The number of asthma cases is higher than in 2012 and 2013.
