Organization of vaccination and measurement of vaccination coverage in the Corsica region
An overview of the organization of vaccination efforts and the data available for measuring vaccination activity or coverage (VC) in the Corsica region was compiled, following the model already implemented in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (PACA) region in 2009. This work consisted, on the one hand, of identifying the partners involved in vaccination and the methods used to assess VC, and, on the other hand, of analyzing all available and previously unexploited vaccination activity data that could be used to assess VC. In Corsica, data from the 24-month health certificates (CS24) and the results of the academic inspectorate’s survey on Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) coverage in middle and high schools for the 2010–2013 period are the only available data enabling an estimate of vaccination coverage among children and adolescents. In contrast, vaccination coverage among adults is poorly documented, and there is a need for tools to provide such data. However, there are potentially usable data on the region that remain untapped due to a lack of time, resources, or even technical support. Among the various sources that could be examined are health screenings in preschool. The analysis would notably contribute to a better understanding of vaccination coverage among children in the Corsica region and provide healthcare providers with more precise information on the situation. For adults, online tools such as the electronic vaccination record (CVE) "mesvaccins.net" could, in the longer term, help improve and assess the population’s vaccination coverage. This individual software application, accessible during medical consultations, provides an automated analysis of the patient’s vaccination status. Ultimately, by also drawing on the work conducted by the InVS using health insurance databases as well as the regional analysis of databases from the Groupement pour l’élaboration et la réalisation de statistiques (GERS), knowledge regarding vaccination coverage in Corsica would be enhanced, enabling the refinement and targeting of the region’s vaccination policy.
