Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of March 24, 2023.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • In the Pays de la Loire region, SARS-CoV-2 viral circulation and hospital and healthcare utilization indicators remained at low levels but showed an upward trend.

  • In Week 11, the incidence rate and positivity rate rose for the second consecutive week but remained at low to moderate levels. The testing rate remained low and stable, or even slightly declining. SOS Médecins calls and emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19, as well as new hospitalizations, remained at a low level but showed a moderate and gradual increase over the past few weeks. New admissions to critical care and in-hospital deaths among patients with SARS-CoV-2 were also at a low level, but increased in Week 11.

Influenza and influenza-like illness

  • The Pays de la Loire region has been in an influenza epidemic phase since Week 49.

  • In week 11, emergency department visits and SOS Médecins calls were down compared to week 10. In the region as well as nationally, influenza B viruses have been the predominant strain circulating in recent weeks.

Acute gastroenteritis

  • Emergency room visits for acute gastroenteritis (AGE) were down in Week 10 and then stable in Week 11, at a low level of activity.

  • Calls to SOS Médecins for acute gastroenteritis remained at a moderate level of activity in Week 11.
