Mental Health in the Occitanie Region. Bimonthly Epidemiological Update, June 28, 2022.

Key Points

Oscour® network emergency department visit indicators:

  • Among adults (18 years or older), mental health issues did not show any particular trend in 2022, but a breakdown by age group revealed an increase among 18- to 24-year-olds in May 2022. Among children (under 18), increases were observed in March and May 2022, particularly among 11- to 14-year-olds and 15- to 17-year-olds.

  • Increase in suicidal acts in May 2022, a trend seen among 11- to 17-year-olds and 18- to 24-year-olds.

  • Since late 2021, there has been a sharp rise in emergency room visits for suicidal ideation, particularly among 11- to 17-year-olds, who accounted for nearly one-third of visits in May 2022.

  • A slight increase in visits for mood disorders across all age groups, but a notable increase among 11- to 17-year-olds and 18- to 24-year-olds.

  • Anxiety disorders have remained relatively stable since the beginning of the year and are less common than in previous years. However, a breakdown by age group showed two peaks in treatment in March and May 2022 among the youngest age groups, 11–14-year-olds and 15–17-year-olds.

Data from SOS Médecins is not included in this report due to insufficient sample sizes to allow for the interpretation of trends.
