Heat Wave and Health in Occitanie. Bulletin of August 20, 2025.

Key Points

  • Amid the heatwave, all departments in the region were placed by Météo-France under an orange heatwave alert for at least one day, and six of them under a red alert for at least one day. As of 6:00 a.m. on August 19, no department in the region is currently under any of these alert levels.

  • A regional analysis of emergency care utilization indicates an increase in the iCanicule composite health indicator (covering hyperthermia, dehydration, and hyponatremia) over the past few days among SOS Médecins calls, emergency room visits, and hospitalizations following emergency room visits.

  • These increases fall within the expected fluctuations given the observed weather conditions and are below the levels observed during the previous heatwave in June/July 2025.
