Health Surveillance in Occitanie. Bulletin of January 16, 2025.
Key Points
Acute Respiratory Infections
In Week 2, activity related to acute respiratory infections across all age groups continued to rise in primary care and began to decline in hospitals (a similar trend was observed at the national level). A significant portion of ARI-related activity was linked to consultations for influenza viruses (64% at SOS Médecins and 41% in emergency departments).
Bronchiolitis
Occitanie is now in the post-epidemic phase. The epidemic phase began in week 48 and ended in week 1, with peak activity occurring in week 51.
The preliminary tally is 1,651 emergency room visits (618 of which resulted in hospitalization) and 208 SOS Médecins calls.
Influenza and influenza-like illness
5th epidemic week.
Indicators in community practice, as well as clusters of cases in long-term care facilities, were still on the rise.
In hospitals, indicators began to decline (except for children under 5) but remained at very high levels, exceeding those observed during the epidemic peaks of the two previous seasons. The proportion of hospitalizations for influenza-like illness among all hospitalizations was very high compared to previous seasons (3% in W2, 3.4% in W1), particularly among those aged 65 and older.
Virological indicators were also high and showed a slight decrease compared to week S01.
Influenza A was the predominant type, but influenza B was also circulating (approximately 11% of influenza viruses in hospitals). Finally, the proportion of influenza-related deaths among electronically certified deaths was increasing.
COVID-19
In Week 2, regional indicators were stable or decreasing.
Nationally, activity was generally stable and at low levels.
Acute gastroenteritis and diarrhea
The incidence rate of acute diarrhea cases seen in general practice (Sentinelles network data available only for the last three weeks) and SOS Médecins calls was significantly higher in Week 2 compared to previous weeks; for SOS Médecins calls, this trend was more specifically observed among adults.
Indicators were generally stable in hospital settings over the previous weeks.
