Health Monitoring in the Occitanie Region. Update as of September 15, 2022.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • In week 36 of 2022, the four SOS Médecins associations in the region (Nîmes, Montpellier, Perpignan, and Toulouse) recorded 69 cases of suspected or confirmed COVID-19 (equivalent to 219 cases per 10,000 consultations), a decrease compared to Week 35 (101 cases, 328 cases per 10,000 consultations)

  • Weekly COVID-19 activity in emergency departments has been stable over the past 3 weeks at the regional level, with 185 suspected COVID-19 cases in week 36, or 64 per 10,000 consultations for the most recent period considered

  • At the regional level and across all age groups, the weekly number of new hospitalizations decreased in week 36 compared to the previous week (170 versus 212, or -20%). The number of new admissions to critical care units also decreased (19 versus 33, or -42%). The R value estimated from regional SI-VIC data through September 11, 2022, was 0.86 (0.73–0.99), stable compared to the previous week (0.83 (0.72–0.96)) and still below 1, indicating a decrease in the number of cases admitted

Monkeypox

In Occitanie, as of September 12, 2022, 308 confirmed cases residing in the region have been reported by healthcare professionals since the first case occurred on May 11, 2022, making it the second-most affected region in France by this disease.

Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika

Several episodes of local transmission of dengue identified in the Occitanie region since the start of summer remind us of the public health stakes involved in this surveillance and the importance of diagnosing and reporting any suspected cases to the ARS:

  • In the Pyrénées-Orientales, in Perpignan, a locally transmitted case of dengue fever whose symptoms began in mid-June. No other cases have been identified since;

  • In the Hautes-Pyrénées, an outbreak of 4 locally transmitted dengue cases: 3 in Andrest, with symptoms beginning during the first half of August, and 1 case in Rabastens-de-Bigorre, with symptoms beginning in late August;

  • In Haute-Garonne, in La Salvetat-Saint-Gilles, a family cluster of 4 dengue cases whose symptoms began in the last half of August.
