In Occitanie, according to data available as of May 19, 2022, for week 19 of 2022, virological indicators continued to decline: a positivity rate of 15.9% (-3.9 percentage points compared to week 18), incidence rate of 263 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (-27% compared to week 18), and testing rate of 1,659 per 100,000 inhabitants (-9% compared to week 18).
At the regional level, incidence and positivity rates were decreasing among those aged 15 and older and stable among those under 15.
The effective R value estimated from regional SI-DEP data through May 14, 2022, was 0.66 (0.65–0.67), a slight increase compared to the previous week (0.63), but lower than that estimated in other French regions.
At the departmental level, an incidence rate exceeding 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants was estimated for week 19 of 2022 in all departments, with the highest rate observed in Ariège at 350 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The positivity and incidence rates were decreasing in all departments compared to the previous week.
Overall, in week 19 of 2022, a continued decline in viral circulation was observed in Occitanie across all departments.
Acute gastroenteritis
Oscour®: Gastroenteritis activity was low in week 19-2022. Visits for gastroenteritis diagnoses across all age groups were slightly higher compared to the previous week. In week 19-2022, 295 visits for gastroenteritis were recorded (including 114 cases in children under 5 years of age), representing 1.0% of all visits (261 visits in week 18-2022).
SOS Médecins: Gastroenteritis activity was low in week 19 of 2022. Consultations for gastroenteritis across all age groups were down compared to the previous week. In week 19-2022, 88 consultations for this diagnosis were recorded (including 16 in children under 5), representing 4.8% of the overall activity of the SOS Médecins network (103 consultations in week 18-2022).
According to the Sentinelles Network, the incidence rate of acute diarrhea cases seen in general practice was 39 per 100,000 [13; 65], stable compared to the previous week (31 per 100,000).
Influenza and Influenza-Like Illness
After a 20-week epidemic spanning weeks 50-2021 to 17-2022, the influenza epidemic has ended in Occitanie. The season was characterized by an exceptionally long duration and two epidemic waves, in late December and late March, separated by a plateau. The first wave particularly affected children. Compared to previous years (before 2020), fewer cases requiring intensive care were reported. The circulating viruses were almost exclusively type A, with co-circulation of A(H1N1)pdm09 and A(H3N2).
