Key Points

MortalityAfter a peak in deaths observed in Week 8, the number of deaths recorded in sentinel municipalities is decreasing. In Week 11, the number of deaths across all age groups is approaching the expected values for this period, and the number of deaths among people aged 75 and older is stable compared to the previous week.

Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: Activity related to emergency room visits by those aged 75 and older is once again below the alert threshold in Week 12. No significant changes to note for those under 1 year of age.

Reportable Diseases (MDO)No notable changes this week.

Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning as of 03/17/13 Nationwide, 1,078 cases of poisoning since 09/01/12, including 35 deaths. In Aquitaine, 4 cases (involving 6 people) reported over the past 3 weeks.

Acute gastroenteritis (AGE) and AGE outbreaks in nursing homesNationally, the number of emergency room visits for gastroenteritis (Oscour® network) and the number of outpatient visits for gastroenteritis observed by the Sentinelles Network have increased slightly compared to last week. In Aquitaine, a slight increase is observed according to SOS Médecins, with values remaining below the alert threshold and close to those observed during the same period last year.

Flu and Outbreaks of Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) in Nursing HomesThe flu epidemic is ending. To be confirmed next week.

Bronchiolitis: Activity is stable across all data sources; the AquiRespi network treated 32 children during the shift on March 23 and 24.

ChickenpoxLow activity in Aquitaine according to the Sentinelles® network and SOS Médecins.

School absenteeismThe overall school absenteeism rate is decreasing, which is consistent with the waning of winter illnesses.
