Health Monitoring in Normandy. Bulletin of October 8, 2025.
Key Points
Acute Respiratory Infections
Indicators of acute respiratory infections (ARI) are on the rise in the community and in hospitals across all age groups. According to virological data, ARI activity is driven primarily by rhinoviruses and SARS-CoV-2.
COVID-19
COVID-19 activity indicators are stabilizing in community care (across all age groups). In emergency departments, the number of visits for COVID-19 is decreasing among those under 15 and increasing among those over 15. The number of hospitalizations is also increasing among people over 64. For now, the current wave of the epidemic is less intense than the one observed during the same period last year.
Virological data confirm clinical observations, with increased detection of the virus in community settings and hospitals, as well as in wastewater, at levels close to those observed during the same period in 2024.
Bronchiolitis
Among children under 1 year of age, indicators of healthcare utilization for bronchiolitis are stabilizing in hospitals and continue to rise in outpatient settings. The detection rate of RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) in nasopharyngeal swabs across all age groups was at baseline levels. Other viruses capable of causing bronchiolitis are circulating, particularly rhinoviruses.
