COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of July 21, 2022.
Key Points
In week 28 in Île-de-France, SARS-CoV-2 transmission was declining. However, virological indicators remained at a high level, and the number of hospital deaths continued to rise.
The regional incidence rate stood at 819 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and decreased for the first time after six consecutive weeks of increases. The testing rate followed the same trend.
The positivity rate (25.2%) showed a decline in Week 28 and decreased for the first time after seven consecutive weeks of increases.
The BA.4 and BA.5 sublineages of the Omicron variant have been predominant in Île-de-France for the past 5 weeks.
Use of primary care and emergency services for “suspected COVID-19” declined after several weeks of increases.
The number of new hospitalizations and the number of new admissions to intensive care units were decreasing. The number of hospital deaths related to COVID-19 continued to rise.
The number of new COVID-19 cases reported by healthcare facilities, as well as the total number of new reported cases, was decreasing.
Given that SARS-CoV-2 is still circulating, vaccination (and booster shots) for all eligible individuals remains essential and must be combined with strict adherence to other preventive measures.
