Surveillance of COVID-19, Influenza, and Bronchiolitis in French Guiana. Update as of February 2, 2023.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • In S04, virological indicators reflected low circulation of COVID-19 in French Guiana. Incidence and positivity rates decreased by 44% and 1 percentage point, respectively, amid a decline in testing activity. The effective R was 0.63 [0.36–0.98], significantly below 1 and stable compared to the effective R in Week 03.

  • In hospitals, the situation remained stable with two new hospitalizations across all departments, as in the previous week, and one admission to the ICU. No deaths were reported in Week 4.

Influenza

  • Influenza viruses are circulating at high levels in Week 04, although a general trend toward stabilization is observed in Week 04. Viruses A and B are co-circulating. The region has been experiencing an influenza epidemic since late 2022.

Bronchiolitis

  • The epidemiological situation has been relatively calm since the end of the epidemic, which concluded in late December.
