Surveillance of COVID-19, Influenza, and Bronchiolitis in French Guiana. Update as of April 27, 2023.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • In S16, all virological indicators reflected low circulation of SARS-CoV-2 in French Guiana. Incidence and positivity rates were low (11 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and 6.9%, respectively) amid stable testing activity. Virological indicators were relatively stable across all sectors. The number of emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 remained stable compared to the previous week. Three new hospitalizations (for reasons other than COVID-19) across all departments were recorded, and no admissions to intensive care were reported, as was the case the previous week. No deaths were reported over the past two weeks.

  • The Omicron variant is the only one circulating in French Guiana. The XBB recombinant has been identified in all sequenced samples since week 2023-01.

Influenza

  • The region is in the inter-epidemic phase.

Bronchiolitis

  • The region is in the inter-epidemic phase.
