Monitoring of Seasonal Illnesses in Martinique. Update as of November 10, 2016.

Situation Analysis

Flu-like Illnesses: Flu indicators are showing a slight increase in community practice, but remain below the expected seasonal level. Two influenza viruses have been isolated at the CHUM Virology Laboratory. The situation should be monitored closely in the coming weeks.

Gastroenteritis: Activity related to gastroenteritis has remained stable over the period among general practitioners, but the situation should be closely monitored in the coming weeks given the steady increase over the past several weeks in visits for gastroenteritis handled by SOS Médecins.

Bronchiolitis: The epidemic continues; surveillance indicators show a recent trend (S2016-43 and S2016-44) toward a moderate decline in both primary care visits and emergency department visits. In total, since the start of the outbreak, 19 severe cases of bronchiolitis have been hospitalized in the pediatric intensive care unit at CHUM. The epidemiological situation must be closely monitored.

Chickenpox: The epidemiological situation regarding chickenpox in Martinique is calm.
