Monitoring of Seasonal Illnesses in Martinique. Update as of December 8, 2016.

Situation Analysis

Flu-like Illnesses: Flu indicators have been rising since mid-September in community medical practice and emergency department visits and have exceeded thresholds for two consecutive weeks. Several influenza viruses have been isolated in hospitals and in primary care settings, with the majority being the AH3N2 virus (68%), the B/Victoria lineage virus (27%), and, to a lesser extent, the B/Yamagata lineage virus (5%). The seasonal influenza epidemic began two weeks ago.

Gastroenteritis: Activity related to gastroenteritis is on the rise, and seasonal expectations have been exceeded. The outbreak began three weeks ago.

Bronchiolitis: The outbreak continues; surveillance indicators from community-based medical care show a stable trend but remain at high levels. In total, since the start of the outbreak, 25 severe cases of bronchiolitis have been hospitalized in the pediatric intensive care unit at CHUM.

Chickenpox: The epidemiological situation regarding chickenpox in Martinique is worsening.
