After a temporary spike observed in early July, the number of malaria cases declined and remained particularly stable between late June and early September, averaging 10 diagnosed cases per week. A new increase was recorded in late August (n=19); however, data from the first weeks of September (to be published in the next Epidemiological Update) show that this was also a temporary phenomenon.A total of 148 malaria cases were recorded between early June and late August by the Decentralized Prevention and Care Centers (CDPS) (n=70), hospital and private laboratories (n=66), and the French Armed Forces in French Guiana (n=12). Of all these cases, 30% were due to P. falciparum and occurred during the second week of June (W2012-23) and the third to sixth weeks of August (W2012-26 to 34).
