Influenza Outbreak Update in French Guiana. As of May 13, 2022.

Key Points

  • Decrease in consultations for acute respiratory infections in private practice during week 18

  • Low number of consultations for flu-like symptoms, mainly in the Maroni area over the past two weeks

  • Stable activity in emergency departments for flu-like illness over the past two weeks

  • No positive results among the 10 samples tested for influenza in private practice over the past two weeks

  • Circulating influenza viruses: A/H3N2 (predominant) and A/H1N1pdm09

  • No new severe cases admitted to intensive care

French Guiana has been in the post-epidemic phase of the flu since late March (week 2022-12). Over the past two weeks, the situation has remained generally calm. If this trend continues and provided that no other influenza virus begins to circulate in the region, the end of the seasonal flu epidemic could be announced in the coming weeks.
