COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of September 29, 2022

Key Points

  • In week 38, virological indicators showed low circulation of COVID-19 in French Guiana. The incidence rate was 15 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the effective R value was 0.69 [0.51–0.91]. This situation was observed across all regions of French Guiana. Hospital indicators also reflected this situation, with 1 new hospitalization across all departments. One person was admitted to the ICU for COVID in week 38.

  • Three weeks after the start of the school year, the positivity rate was stable and at a low level across all age groups, including among those under 20, where the positivity rate was 2% in Week 38 compared to 7% in Week 37.

  • The Omicron variant is the only one circulating in French Guiana. Among samples sequenced since Week 28, the BA.5 sublineage remains the dominant strain in French Guiana.
