COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of January 5, 2023

Key points

  • In S52, virological indicators were declining in French Guiana. Incidence and positivity rates decreased by 53% and 3.6 percentage points, respectively, amid a decline in testing activity. The seven-day rolling R-value from December 25 to 31, 2022, of 0.48 (0.38–0.58) is consistent with this situation.

  • Indicators were declining on the island of Cayenne and along the western coast, with the number of new cases falling by more than half. They remained generally stable in other parts of French Guiana.

  • In hospitals, the situation was relatively stable. Emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 were similar to those of the previous week. Five additional hospitalizations across all departments were recorded compared to the previous week. One admission to the intensive care unit was recorded. It should be noted that one hospital death was reported in French Guiana during week 52.
