COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of December 8, 2022

Key Points

In S48, virological indicators stabilized in French Guiana: the incidence rate rose from 295 to 305 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the positivity rate from 31% to 33%. The effective reproduction number (R_e) also reflects this situation: it stood at 1.10 [1.03–1.18] for the period from November 27 to December 3, compared to 1.65 [1.54–1.76] for the previous week.

Trends vary by sector. The number of new cases was down in the Savanes and Oyapock sectors and slightly up on Cayenne Island. The number of new cases increased by a factor of 1.6 in the West Coast and Maroni sectors compared to the previous week.

Visits to emergency rooms for suspected COVID-19 decreased compared to last week. There was also a decrease in hospitalizations across all departments. Three people were admitted to intensive care, compared to two last week. No deaths were recorded in the hospital.
