COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of April 21, 2022

Key Points

In S15, trends in epidemiological indicators related to COVID-19 indicated a stabilization in viral circulation compared to S14: the incidence rate was 167 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the positivity rate decreased by 1.5 percentage points. The testing rate increased slightly (+13%). The effective R was 1.01, which was not significant (vs. 1.11 in S14, which was significant).

Regarding hospital activity, the number of new hospitalizations across all departments was slightly higher, with 5 of the 20 new hospitalizations being for COVID-19 treatment and the other 15 for other reasons. There were no new admissions to the ICU and no new deaths in Week 15.

The number of emergency department visits was slightly higher in Week 15 compared to Week 14, noting that data for the CHC were not available in Week 14.

Vaccination coverage increased slightly compared to the previous week: among those aged 12 and older, it reached 40.5% for a full course and 18.9% for a partial course.
