Public Health Surveillance in the Lorraine Region. Epidemiological Update as of March 8, 2012.
Key Points
The flu epidemic continues in Lorraine. Flu-related activity in emergency departments continued to rise moderately in week 9, while flu-related activity reported by the SOS Médecin association in Meurthe-et-Moselle began to decline.
The epidemic peak has been passed in mainland France.
The A(H3N2) virus is predominant this season.
Nationally, an increase in mortality among people aged 85 and older has been observed since week 6, though it is not possible to determine whether this excess is attributable to the cold snap that occurred during the first two weeks of February and/or to the ongoing winter flu epidemic.
