Public Health Surveillance in the Lorraine Region. Epidemiological Update as of February 23, 2012.
Key Facts
The flu epidemic is taking hold in the region; the incidence rate of flu-like illness consultations is 229 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (data from the Unified Flu Network) in Lorraine. With the influenza A (H3N2) virus being the predominant strain this season, we expect to see numerous clusters of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in facilities caring for dependent elderly individuals.
The acute gastroenteritis outbreak is gradually subsiding in Lorraine. Surveillance data show a decrease in outpatient visits (data from SOS Médecin). Virological data confirm the predominant circulation of GII4 genotype noroviruses.
The bronchiolitis outbreak among children under 2 years of age is subsiding in mainland France. The same trend is observed at the regional level.
