Public Health Surveillance in the Île-de-France Region. Epidemiological Update as of March 1, 2012.

Week 08 in the Île-de-France region has been marked by a rise in the flu epidemic despite school holidays, a trend reflected in increased visits to hospital and community emergency departments for the flu and flu-like symptoms. There is also an increase in visits to hospital and community emergency departments for pneumonia and acute bronchitis among adults aged 15 and older, a trend that is more pronounced among people aged 75 and older. A stabilization appears to be beginning in week 09 regarding the flu epidemic, pneumonia, and acute bronchitis (less pronounced stabilization among people aged 75 and older for flu and pneumonia).

Furthermore, a high number of deaths was observed in week 07 compared to deaths recorded in the same period of the year over the previous six years. This increase is particularly pronounced among people aged 75 and older, although it cannot be attributed to the escalation of the flu epidemic and/or the cold snap of recent weeks.
