Public Health Surveillance in the Alsace Region. Epidemiological Update as of February 9, 2012.

Highlights

  • Due to the current cold snap in France, the Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin departments are under an orange alert for extreme cold.

  • In mainland France, flu indicators continue to rise and suggest that the epidemic threshold may be reached soon. Flu activity has increased slightly in Alsace over the past few weeks.

  • Although less intense than in December, the bronchiolitis outbreak among children under 2 years of age remains active in mainland France. The same trend is visible at the regional level.

  • According to data from the Sentinelles France network, the epidemic threshold for gastroenteritis has now been exceeded at the national level since early January. The majority of gastroenteritis outbreaks reported to the National Reference Center appear to be due to the circulation of norovirus.
