Public Health Surveillance in the Alsace Region. Epidemiological Update as of December 19, 2012

Key Findings

  • An increase in the number of influenza and influenza-like illness diagnoses reported by the SOS Médecins association in Strasbourg has been observed over the past two weeks. This trend is not observed for the SOS Médecins association in Mulhouse, where the number of influenza and influenza-like illness diagnoses remains stable.

  • In France, the influenza epidemic threshold has not yet been exceeded, but a marked increase in all influenza surveillance indicators has been observed.

  • The number of bronchiolitis and bronchitis cases among children under 2 years of age has remained high over the past two weeks for both associations in the region. Nationally, the number of visits to hospital emergency departments for infant bronchiolitis remains high but is beginning to decline.

  • Over the past two weeks, the number of diagnoses of diarrhea and gastroenteritis reported by the SOS Médecins d'Alsace associations remains high.
