Health Surveillance in the Alsace Region. Epidemiological Update as of February 23, 2012.
Key Facts
The flu epidemic is taking hold in the region; the incidence rate of flu-like illness consultations is 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (data from the Unified Flu Network) in Alsace. With the influenza A (H3N2) virus being the predominant strain this season, we expect to see numerous clusters of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in facilities caring for dependent elderly individuals.
The bronchiolitis epidemic among children under 2 years of age is subsiding in mainland France. The same trend is observed at the regional level.
The number of gastroenteritis cases diagnosed by the SOS Médecins associations in Alsace has been relatively stable for several weeks. Virological data confirm the predominant circulation of GII4 genotype noroviruses.
