Epidemiological surveillance in the Alsace region. Update as of March 7, 2013.
Key Points
According to data from the Unified Influenza Network, a decline in the influenza incidence rate is currently being observed. This decrease is also being observed in the Alsace region.
Following four weeks during which the number of influenza and influenza-like illness diagnoses remained stable for the region’s two SOS Médecins associations, a sharp decline was observed in week 09.
However, epidemic activity remains high throughout the country, and influenza viruses continue to circulate. The national influenza epidemic threshold has now been exceeded for 11 consecutive weeks.
According to data from the hospital laboratory network (Renal) and samples collected by physicians in the GROG Network, influenza viruses of types A(H1N1) pdm09, A(H3N2), and B continue to co-circulate.
Since October 1, 30 outbreaks of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in elderly care facilities have been reported. Influenza viruses were identified in 50% of these outbreaks, with co-circulation observed in one outbreak.
In week 09, gastroenteritis was the second most frequently diagnosed condition by the two SOS Médecins associations in Alsace.
