Public Health Monitoring in the Centre-Val de Loire Region. Epidemiological Update as of June 14, 2017.

Key Points

Hepatitis A InfectionsBetween June 2016 and May 2017, an unusual number of hepatitis A cases affecting men who have sex with men (MSM) were reported in Europe. To date, in France among MSM, a cluster of cases in the Normandy region (January 2017) and an increase in sporadic cases in the Île-de-France and Hauts-de-France regions have been reported. In the Centre-Val de Loire region, 5 cases of hepatitis A were reported between early May and early June 2017 among MSM, 3 of whom were infected with the same strain (strain IA VRD-521-2016, known as "UK Travel to Spain").This increase in the number of cases comes amid tensions regarding the supply of hepatitis A vaccines, on the one hand, and the organization of several national and international events bringing together the LGBT community in the coming months (such as World Pride, which will take place in Madrid in June–July 2017).It is important to reiterate prevention guidelines: information, vaccination, hygiene measures (including food safety), and access to preventive measures during sexual intercourse.

Heat-related illnesses: In the Centre-Val de Loire region during Week 23, there was no increase in calls to SOS Médecins or visits to emergency rooms for heat-related illnesses.
