Key Points

Pneumonia

  • High volume of calls to SOS Médecins for pneumonia compared to previous years.

Bronchiolitis

  • Activity outside of the epidemic season remains low. Detection of RSV remains low according to the virology laboratories at Rennes University Hospital (on the rise) and Brest University Hospital (stable). Other viruses capable of causing bronchiolitis are circulating, notably rhinoviruses.

  • Maternal vaccination and infant immunization with monoclonal antibodies are two alternative prevention strategies against RSV bronchiolitis.

Influenza

  • Activity outside of an epidemic, very low. Sporadic detection of influenza A virus according to data from the Virology Laboratory at Rennes University Hospital.
