Health Monitoring in the Bourgogne and Franche-Comté Regions. Update as of January 5, 2023.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • Testing and incidence rates decreased in S52. The positivity rate is also decreasing (20.0% vs. 24.1% in S-1). This trend is consistent with the overall trend observed in France.

  • The Omicron variant is circulating almost exclusively in the region, with the BA.5 sublineage predominating, accounting for 93.5% of interpretable sequences from the Flash S50 survey (based on 62 interpretable sequences as of December 12). Among these sublineages, BQ.1.1 is the most frequently detected.

  • The share of COVID-19 cases in the total caseload of SOS Médecins associations is decreasing (1.3% vs. 2.1% in Week 1), as is the share of suspected COVID-19 cases in emergency departments (1.3% vs. 1.7% in Week 1).

  • The weekly number of new hospitalizations is decreasing for the third consecutive week (238 vs. 415 in Week 1 and 509 in Week 2). The number of new admissions to critical care is decreasing (25 vs. 34 in Week 1). The number of deaths in hospitals is stable (35 vs. 36 in Week 1).

Bronchiolitis

  • Epidemic phase.

  • The region has been in the epidemic phase for 12 weeks.

  • Bronchiolitis activity among children under 2 years of age has continued to decline in emergency departments over the past three weeks and has stabilized for calls to SOS Médecins.

Influenza

  • Epidemic phase.

  • The region has been in the flu epidemic phase for the fifth consecutive week: activity is beginning to decline across all age groups in emergency departments and at SOS Médecins. However, the number of hospitalizations is still on the rise.

  • 21 reports of clusters of acute respiratory infections in long-term care facilities.

  • 11 severe cases of influenza admitted to intensive care reported by the intensive care sentinel network, including 3 in pediatric intensive care.

Acute gastroenteritis

  • Activity rates at SOS Médecins clinics are stable, close to the levels observed during the 2020-21 season.

  • Activity rates in emergency departments are high and stable, but remain below last season’s levels.
